We have a call center in Delhi that is alluring persons with most attractive abilities. And they also expect call center agents to switch or jump jobs. Whatever happened to good old fashioned things like career, job enrichment, HR policies etc etc.
It only reflects the desperation of an Recruitment Manager who is extremely desirous of making the numbers, come what may. In the short term approach, the long term desire of building a dedicated corp of team players is forgotten.
The BPOs is being reached faster than what anyone thought would happen. Just sit back and think. A call center is becoming so desperate for employees that they are trying to lure potential candidates by offering better vehicles for pick up and drop for the night shifts.
It looks like India’s BPO boom would have to face reality rather sooner than expected. The labor shortage, which I have been talking about earlier is now catching the attention of mainstream media. India’s dominance as a low-cost outsourcing destination seems to be on the decline, with countries like China, Morocco and Hungary fast emerging as the preferred choices by IT services providers, a recent study says
A study showed that China, Morocco and Hungary are the new locations of choice to set up offshore sourcing centers.
According to the study, since the beginning of January 2007, UK’s 20 largest IT services suppliers have opened 21 new global delivery centers. However, of these only two are were located in India. Four such centers were set up in China, while Eastern Europe and Morocco had three each, the study added.
If you are one of those tracking the outsourcing industry then better brush up your geography, as IT vendors and service providers are venturing far and deeper into the hinterland across the globe in a bid to beat the global slowdown.
Jaipur, Kolkata, Chandigarh and Coimbatore figure in the list of top 50 newly emerging outsourcing hot spots. Six Indian cities appear in the list of top eight global outsourcing destinations — Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi National Capital Region, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune.
The BPO-KPO sector in India is facing the heat of the US slowdown, particularly following the recent events in the financial markets. Prospects of a host of small- and mid-sized firms have taken a further hit since a major chunk of their business comes from banking and financial services firms in the US.
